Barry Joseph Consulting is looking for a graduate student in the capacity of UX Design Intern to help inform and advance the new Brooklyn Seltzer Museum. Located within the oldest seltzer works in New York City (a family run business now in its fourth generation), the Museum celebrates the production of seltzer, the science of seltzer, its cultural importance, and the value of local, family-run businesses. This museum is connected with the company Brooklyn Seltzer Boys.
At the family-oriented Brooklyn Seltzer Museum, visitors will:
Feel the Spritz: Hold a real seltzer siphon and spray it into your mouth at the Spritzing Station.
Trace Time: Journey through over a millennia of seltzer history and add your own personal memories to the Seltzer Milestones.
Take the Seltzer Journey: Spin the paddle, excite the molecules, and learn how the Brooklyn Seltzer Boys transforms regular NYC water into seltzer using tools and machinery a century old.
Enter the Machines: Use 3D models on a mobile device, go inside the seltzer machinery to learn how seltzer is made.
Solve the Puzzle: Take the challenge of rebuilding the entire seltzer line, using laser-cut wood pieces.
Watch the Videos: Learn about the three pillars of the Brooklyn Seltzer Boys -- a community of customers, the power of the siphon, and sustainable business model.
Meet the Customers: Page through the customer storybook, learning who drinks seltzer and their relationship with the Brooklyn Seltzer Boys.
Pose with Spritz: Take photos with the Museum mascots - Spritz and Siphon & Lil Spritz!
Barry Joseph Consulting is working directly with the Brooklyn Seltzer Boys to explore how this 5,000 sq foot space can provide space for a permanent museum on the topic – for school groups, business rentals, and public visitors – as well as provide educational access to the factory itself.
Position Responsibilities will Include:
Creating a virtual tour of the museum for web visitors.
Creating museum visitor personas
Running user testing sessions alongside Museum special events
Developing and curating a Wall of Memory feature on the web site
Process

Visits to the seltzer works in Brooklyn will be required, as defined by the needs of the project and in agreement with the intern.
Intern will be responsible for working with subject matter experts.
Working times are extremely flexible.
Qualifications
Graduate student studying in the fields of Museum Design or Experience Design, with a focus on education or learning.
Detail oriented, with strong time management, prioritization skills, and project management.
Program evaluation skills a plus.
Self-motivated and willing to learn.
A high level of flexibility, persistence, and dependability.
Strong spoken and written communication skills in English.
Comfort working remotely.
Commitment
This is a Spring 2024 placement, beginning in January and running through May. Intern will be expected to work three days per week (or a related number of hours over a seven-day period).
