The Center of Children and Technology investigates the roles that technology can play in improving teaching and learning within children's classrooms, schools, and communities.
Internship Opportunity # 1:
Here is a link to our IDEAS curriculum on the EDC website - https://www.edc.org/ideas-inventing-designing-and-engineering-all-students-maker-program
Description: The IDEAS Maker Program, currently in its 6th year, is a project which created an informal maker program that engages middle school students with a range of abilities in engineering design activities. Over the past 3 years, our team has focused on scaling this project to include both elementary and high school classrooms and adjusting our curriculum and program support accordingly to incorporate feedback and meet the needs of students and teacher facilitators. The IDEAS Maker Program curriculum culminates in a project based on students’ own interests, where they create with a computer-aided design software called TinkerCAD and print on a 3D printer. With funding from the National Science Foundation, a collaborative team redesigned a museum-based program so that it could be run in schools by teachers.
Our needs: In the final year of this project, our team aims to finalize program materials to ensure that our project products are accessible and useful for teachers within and beyond our NYC DOE locations. We are currently serving schools which have an autism inclusion model as part of the NYU Nest Support Project. These program materials include curriculum/lesson plans, teacher facilitation slideshows, virtual professional development for facilitators, videos of maker activities, and program extensions to specifically cater to younger and older age groups. Essentially, we want to ensure that all our work continues to live on and be used beyond the grant funding period.
Some options for intern duties:
If the student is interested in digital design/accessibility/dissemination, we could use some assistance in designing a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing theme for all the materials we will be creating in this next year. This would include website layout/structure, planning to shoot videos of maker activities and teacher PD, and layout and design of curriculum materials and slideshows.
It would be helpful for an intern to complete some landscape research to help us better understand what is already out there, how materials are designed, disseminated, and marketed to teachers, and how we might be influenced by materials that teachers already access and enjoy.
Project can cover 25% time, 2 days a week.
Internship Opportunity # 2:

The focus of their efforts would be in supporting day-to-day social media needs and contributing to larger projects as available.
This internship is remote and unpaid.
