LTXD: New Name, New Directions!

Former ECT Program Director, Maaike Bouwmeester, shares some program initiatives on the horizon.

Many of you have heard about our name change from DMDL to LTXD! Along with the new name, and based on research and program design work we’ve been doing recently, ECT is introducing some key changes over the next few months.

Here is a sneak preview:

  • Our specialization, Transformative Learning Design (formerly Online Learning Design), will now include more courses that push learning impact to a new level.

  • Our popular Digital Skills for Learning Designers class will now be offered more often, and will offer instruction on a wider range of technical skills. Be on the lookout for three brand new technical skills modules this Summer 2023.

  • Other initiatives in progress include a case study library, increased modality options, streamlined resources and supports, and more ways plan to engage in real world projects!

As always, we welcome your feedback and ideas as we explore ways to improve the experience for ECT students. Please reach out to share your thoughts, or to get involved!

Fall 2022 Thesis Expo Recap

CONGRATULATIONS Fall 2022 graduates!

On December 16, friends, faculty and family came together to celebrate the achievements of our DMDL/LTXD and G4L Masters students!

Thesis advisors Maaike Bouwmeester and Camillia Matuk hosted a showcase of students' projects, which tackled topics ranging from climate anxiety to subway safety to sexual assault; and featured story-based games, scholarly papers, museum exhibits, design kits, and arts-based campaigns.

Awards were given to Sondra Phifer (Theory in Practice), Jonathon Lentine (Excellence in Prototyping), Sophia Chalsma (Societal Relevance & Impact), and Sasha Von Blasingame (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion).

At the holiday party that followed, our 5th floor common area was decked with gold and silver stars, thanks to the tasteful stylings of Addie Boucher (ECT Program Assistant and LTXD student)¸ and gift bags were laid out for our graduates.

Darren Ziller, our ALT Events Coordinator, ordered a feast of Chicken Piccata, Rigatoni, and Classic New York Cannoli; and with their programming chops, ECT Faculty Yoav Bergner and Kayla DesPortes transformed the Adjunct swing office into a bar, complete with a disco ball and fog machine!

We wish our Fall 2022 graduates well. We can't wait to see what you accomplish in this next chapter of your careers!
