I am a UX researcher intern at Killer Snails—an educational technology company specializing in science games for grades 3-5—my main responsibilities revolve around using JASP for coding and analyzing the user-testing of their game, WaterWays. WaterWays allows students to role-play as scientists, investigating interconnected problems like plastic pollution, air and water quality, Urban Heat Island effect, and marine biodiversity.
Beyond coding and user-testing, I've taken on additional 'ownership projects' that I proposed to do as part of my internship. One of which involves researching strategies to introduce WaterWays into informal educational settings. This pursuit has led me to conduct insightful interviews with esteemed institutions like AMNH, NYSCI, WCS, and HRPT, aiming to integrate our game into their programs and activities.

My analysis of the WaterWays data has offered insights into the potential for science intervention through immersive learning. I am collaborating closely with a team member on a scholarly paper about using the data for science identity exploration. Our aim is to submit this article to a relevant academic journal.
From Theory to Practice: Working alongside the Learning & Development team, I've worked on projects that allow me to apply concepts from my Cognitive Science and Games and Play for Learning courses.
Exploring Diverse Career Paths: While K-12 spaces weren't initially my primary focus, the opportunity to delve into informal educational settings and academia has made this experience intriguing. This journey, though not explicitly mapped out in the job description, has served as an exciting gateway towards career paths I hadn’t considered before.
