Spotlighting our Students

DMDL Students Partner with NY SunWorks!

In their Design Process for Learning class DMDL students, Sondra Phifer, Beiheng Guo, Samantha Kendrick and Bihan Wang partnered with NY SunWorks Director of Education, Hannah Jaris, to create interactive, just-in-time training resources for teachers. See their full project here!

NY Sun Works is a non-profit organization that builds innovative science labs in urban schools. Through the Greenhouse Project Initiative they use hydroponic farming technology to educate students and teachers about the science of sustainability.

Roxy Ho accepted into the NYU'21 StartUp Sprint Entrepreneurship Program!

Roxy Ho, a current DMDL student, started an incredible business during the pandemic. CYOBot helps professors who instruct lab-based courses in computer engineering, teach industry-demand skills in control and embedded systems and IoT effectively while cutting down costs, time, and efforts in preparing teaching materials using one single robotic kit.

Students who presented thesis projects at the Spring’21 Expo designed solutions that tackled math education and workplace inclusion and much more! Check out a few featured projects below.

Collin Yu develops "Restoration", a Role-Playing Game to Help Struggling Students Learn Algebra

After tutoring 9th grade Algebra in the NYC public school system, Collin Yu (G4L, 2021) realized that many math programs only served those who were already doing well but didn't serve students who were struggling. For his thesis project, Collin created Restoration, a fun, playful immersive role-playing game for algebra learning that uses learning-aligned game mechanics and embedded learning analytics to support learners in preparing for future learning in and practicing solving equations.

Jessie Chang designs "Autiply" to Increase Employment for those with Autism

In her thesis project, Jessie Chang (DMDL, 2021) helps make the work environment more inclusive for those with Autism. Autiply is an eLearning course that aims to empower employers without prior experience to gain awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder and learn the knowledge and skills to provide workplace accommodation for people on the spectrum from animations and situated practices.
