Many graduate students transition from academia to User Experience (UX) to utilize the research skills honed during their graduate studies. We believe the skills we’ve practiced and perfected are transferable to product research. It’s human-centered research, and all human-centered research is the same. While there are many overlaps between product research and academic research, there are many differences. The purpose of this talk is to discuss some of the things I learned about conducting product research after transitioning from psychometrics to quantitative user research in the tech industry. The goal of this talk is to help new professionals transition more smoothly.
