Notes:
** internships can be taken for less than 3 credits in some cases. Please consult with ECT internship coordinator.
** internships can count towards specializations
Internships are open to all LTXD & G4L and PhD students who have completed at least one semester in the program, and can devote 180-240 hours to the host organization’s needs. This equates to around two full days a week for 12-15 weeks and requires that you register for our 3 credit** ECT course (EDCT-GE 2197 Media Practicum: Field Internships).
Internships provide students in the program with professional field experience in diverse educational technology career areas including opportunities to explore on many levels- from learning what others in our field are doing and how they are doing it, to participating in varied and interesting projects and initiatives, to identifying your professional goals and figuring out what makes you tick.
Our internships help you apply and refine what is being learned in coursework, under the supervision of professionals in professional settings. This experience can be invaluable for academic and career planning and professional development. Many program alums tell us that their employment can be directly traced to having participated in a successful internship while in the program.
All students are welcome and encouraged to take an ECT internship. Our Associate Director of Experiential Learning, Chrissy Glaser (chrissyglaser@nyu.edu) will help you find an internship and support you throughout your placement.
Feel free to peruse the deck we've included here for more details on the ECT internship program..

Joanna Liu, LTXD (formerly known as DMDL) student talks about her internship
" I find it really difficult to describe all the wonderful feelings I have about my internship experience with BrainPOP. I've learned so much in the time I was there, from working with awesome people to applying things I learned in my courses. The work environment/culture was also just so refreshingly positive and conducive to producing high quality work. I interned with them for the spring, and I am finishing up a continued summer internship with them right now. I'm currently scheduled to continue working for them part-time in the fall, so suffice to say it's definitely been a rewarding experience for me. "
"Embodied cognition. Cognitive apprenticeship. Legitimate peripheral participation. Take one class in the DMDL/LTXD program and you'll know that having a place to contextualize and practice your learning makes that knowledge even more engrained and encoded into your mind. Having an internship not only de-theorizes the learning that you are taking part in, but also gives you a job title, real responsibilities, and job experience that you can include in resumes, portfolios, etc. In my job search, my internship experience and real life practice is far, far, far, far more important than any class I've taken, paper I've written, or project that I've done."
" The internship experience in Classroom, inc. gave me an opportunity to know how to come up with the game idea and implement it. The people in the organization were very nice to work with. I never felt I was doing a job, but instead felt I was learning, contributing and enjoying."
