LTXD, G4L and PhD students can choose a specialization (or "area of focus") as part of their
degree by completing at least 3 courses related to this specialization.

Choose from the specializations below or work with your advisor to
create a unique area of specialization tailored to your interests.
Note: specializations are NOT required and will not appear on your transcript. 

Learning Analytics and Educational Data Science  (LADS)

Harness the power of data to improve learning and teaching. Learn how to design and create information and decision-making tools for educational settings based on data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Transformative Learning Design (TLD) 

(Formerly known as "Online Learning Design") (OLE)

In this highly relevant specialization, you’ll learn about emerging technologies and innovative learning activities and approaches. You will build on emerging trends afforded by new media and technologies (AR/VR, AI, social media, etc) and the latest findings in learning sciences and learning experience design to design engaging online experiences for K–12, higher education, and adult learning environments, both in formal and informal settings.

User Experience Design (UXD) for Learning  

Become deeply immersed in the science and the art of creating learning experiences and products grounded in practices such as human-centered design, instructional design, design thinking, and user research.
