I'm working as a sales enablement intern at Verint, a company that sells software and hardware for customer engagement. I have been working here for 9 months in the marketing department.
I had never heard of this position before I joined my internship. Sales enablement is a multifaceted role that bridges the gap between sales and marketing, aiming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the sales team. For example, in a SaaS company, the sales team needs to be constantly updated on the product features so they could better help the clients and close the deal, and the sales enablement team is here to help. In this case, the product team is the subject matter expert (SME), the sales team is our learner and the sales enablement team is the learning designer. During my internship, my job duties range from managing marketing materials (newsletter), content creation and developing curriculum, basically anything that empowers the sales team.
"Verint leverages AI to drive new insights, elevate CX, and lower your customer engagement costs."
I learned skills that are more unique to the corporate settings:
Communication:
One of the most significant lessons I've learned during my internship at Verint revolves around the importance of effective communication. In the corporate world, clear and concise communication is paramount to the success of projects and collaborations. I discovered that communication extends beyond just conveying information; it involves active listening, understanding different perspectives, and adapting communication styles to suit diverse audiences. Regular team meetings, email correspondences, and collaborative platforms are important parts of my daily routine.
Ownership:
Taking ownership of my work and responsibilities has been a cornerstone of my internship experience. In academia, projects are often individual pursuits, but in a corporate setting, teamwork is key. Learning to take ownership of tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver quality results is indeed a valuable lesson for me. Taking ownership also meant being proactive in problem-solving, seeking guidance when needed, and continuously striving for improvement.
Professional Development:
Beyond the technical skills gained in my specific role, I've experienced big professional development. Engaging with other outstanding peers in the industry has broadened my perspective and provided valuable insights into the industry applications. In our summer internship cohort, I had many networking opportunities. I bonded with interns from different teams in the marketing/sales departments and we won the case competition.
Transitioning to the Corporate World: The insights gained about the corporate culture, effective communication, taking ownership, and continuous professional development are invaluable assets that I will carry forward in my career.
Connect with Me: I am grateful for the opportunities, mentorship, and support provided by Verint and from our ECT team (big thank you to Maaike!), and I look forward to applying these lessons in my future adventures.
